Balinese Wooden Bhoma Mask - Handmade Bali Wood Carving and Painting

✅Bhoma (“bhoma”) is the representation of nature in architectural padmasana (the building to worship the God) in Bali. Bhoma in the twist of Mandara Giri Mount mythology is the son of the Lord Vishnu and Dewi Pertiwi.
Once upon time, when Lord Vishnu is transforming himself into a wild boar and dig the ground looking for the base of the Lord Shiva’s lingga (the place of Shiva to conduct meditation) until the bottom of the earth.When digging the bottom of the earth, wild boar incarnation of Vishnu met with the pretty Goddess Pertiwi. The encounter of the earth goddess and the god of rain make a love story that gave birth to a son named Bhoma.
In reality, the figure Bhoma as the son of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Pertiwi also is equated as vegetation or forest (vanaspati) which grows in the soil (earth) obtain water (rain). Vanaspati in Javanese and Balinese called by Banaspati is interpreted as the king of the jungle or a big tree. In relation to Padmasana, Karang Bhoma can be interpreted as a guardian spirit of the sacred padmasana which also symbolizes the forest at the foot of the mountain.
Most of the temples, which normally are spread over three courts, are dominated by richly ornamented passageways. The first and the second courts can be reached by passing through the majestic gate , the Candi Bendar. At some very old temples you still can see that the passage to the last and most holy court for all prayers is only possible through the open mouth of the earth goddess Kala Boma. This step is meant as symbolic death and as cleansing supposition for anyone wishing to get closer to the Gods.
